The interior of Latvijas Šķirnes sēklas’ new office has been designed to reflect the company’s core business — agriculture and seed production. Natural materials, shades of green and motifs inspired by nature define the space, which combines workstations, a warehouse and a product showroom under one roof.

“What should a modern office look like for a company that has been developing and selling seeds for lawns, forage crops and meadow mixtures for more than 30 years? When a business is so closely connected to Latvia’s landscapes and sustainable agriculture, the office should naturally reflect that identity. At the same time, it needs to be ergonomic, stylish and functional, as the space serves three purposes: it is a workplace, a warehouse and a showroom,” says Anita Goba-Dronka, Member of the Board of Latvijas Šķirnes sēklas.

“We grow seeds ourselves and are closely connected to agriculture, so natural colours and materials were particularly important to us,” she adds.

""

The design team also faced a practical challenge: bringing the showroom, warehouse and office together according to a “three-in-one” concept, while ensuring that the space remained both visually appealing and comfortable to use.

Designers Ligita Breģe and Baiba Rūķe from br.ook interior architecture proposed combining meadow-inspired elements with a contemporary office environment. As a result, references to nature run organically throughout the entire interior.

Samples of seed mixtures have become part of the design rather than simply being displayed as products. A palette of green tones and graphic grass silhouettes on glass partitions create a sense of nature without literally imitating it. According to Goba-Dronka, however, the reception desk is the element that makes the strongest visual impression.

As customers regularly visit the office to collect their orders, particular attention was paid to the public-facing area. Its centrepiece is a sculptural reception desk created specifically for the project and finished with olive wood veneer.

“Its expressive texture and shape resemble the furrows of a freshly ploughed field, where the very seeds the company produces begin to grow,” the designers explain.

Next to it is a product display made from solid ash wood, turning the company’s products into an integral part of the interior rather than simply items on display.

According to the designers, the entire office concept was built around the seed as a symbol of the beginning of growth and development.

This idea is reflected in the use of natural materials with authentic textures. A solid wood coffee table, the product display and the surface of the meeting-room table all evoke associations with the Latvian landscape.

The company owner’s office also serves as a meeting room. His personal passion for hunting is reflected in the interior through a collection of hunting trophies.

Instead of the neutral grey palette traditionally associated with office interiors, the designers deliberately chose shades of green. The colour scheme reflects the company’s field of activity while also working naturally alongside the everyday elements of office life — documents, personal belongings and plants.
